The World at Night (TWAN) Photography Exhibition at Paseo Colorado - September 12 – 27
 

Paseo Colorado if offering the community an incredible opportunity to see The World at Night (TWAN) Photography Exhibit, a special project of the International Year of Astronomy featuring a collection of photographs of the world´s landmarks against the celestial attractions. The best night sky photographers from around the world have captured images resulting in this traveling exhibit that is being displayed internationally. The exhibition will showcase (2) large panoramic prints and (30) 22 x 28 prints as part of the TWAN exhibit located at Paseo Colorado, 240 East Colorado Boulevard, Space A 105, September 12 - 27. The exhibition will open with "Fashion for Compassion," a star-studded fashion show in Garfield Promenade on Friday, September 11, sponsored by Pasadena Magazine. Continuing the celebration of the International Year of Astronomy, Paseo Colorado, Pacific Theatres Paseo 14 and The Planetary Society invite you to learn more about the Science and the Beauty of the World and Beyond on Tuesday evenings throughout September at the "Stars Over Paseo Colorado" "The Sky´s the Limit" Speaker Series, benefiting The Planetary Society. Tuesday, September 8th - 7:00pm - Dr. Robert Pappalardo
"The Hidden Ocean of Europa"

Dr. Robert Pappalardo is a Senior Research Scientist in the Planetary Ices Group, Science Division, of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena and is the Cassini Project Scientist. Pappalardo´s presentation focuses on processes that have shaped the icy satellites of the outer solar system, especially Europa and the role of its probable subsurface ocean.

Tuesday, September 15th - 7:00pm - Wally Pacholka
"America the Beautiful & the World at Night"

Wally Pacholka is one of the featured artists in the TWAN (The World at Night) Photography Exhibition at Paseo Colorado. Wally Pacholka is a three-time "Picture of the Year" winner for Time and Life magazines´ end-of-year photograph editions. Both magazines honored him in 2003 for shots he took when Mars made its closest pass to Earth in almost 60,000 years, and Time also noted him in 1997 for a picture he took of Comet Hale-Bopp above Joshua Tree National Park.

Tuesday, September 22nd - 7:00pm -Todd Barber
Mars Exploration Rovers "Spirit" and "Opportunity"

Todd Barber is a JPL propulsion engineer, working on the Cassini Mission to Saturn and the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Mission. Cassini was launched on October 15, 1997 on its two-billion-mile, seven-year journey to the ringed planet. The Mars Exploration Rover team launched twin rovers to the red planet during the summer of 2003. Part-time, Mr. Barber also worked on the Deep Space One mission, the first NASA mission to use an ion engine (ala "Star Trek") for primary propulsion.

Paseo Colorado, Pacific Theatres Paseo 14, Pacific Astronomy and Telescope Show and The Planetary Society join together to highlight The World at Night (TWAN) Photography Exhibition at Paseo Colorado with special events at Paseo Colorado and the Pasadena Convention Center, September 26 - 27.

Pacific Astronomy and Telescope Show - Pasadena Convention Center -Saturday, September 26 - Sunday, September 27 -Astronomers from all over Southern California will converge on Pasadena Convention Center September 26 - 27 for the Largest Astronomy and Telescope Show on the West Coast. There will be two days of Astro Presentations including Apollo Astronaut Rusty Schweickart, Author, Observer Stephen James O´Meara, Bruce Betts from the Planetary Society and Sean Walker from Sky and Tel Magazine. Star Gazing - Saturday, September 26 - 7:30pm - View the wonders of space with Riverside Astronomical Society, Monrovia Sidewalk Astronomers, and the Ponoma Valley Amateur Astronomers who will be on hand with their telescopes set-up throughout Garfield Promenade to give you a professional viewing of the Moon and Jupiter and the four Galilean Moons with expert astronomers on hand to guide you.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Saturday, September 26 - 8:30pm Paseo Colorado, The Planetary Society and Pacific Astronomy and Telescope Show present the classic movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" on a large out-door screen FREE, in Garfield Promenade. Seating is open to the public on a first come basis.

Photography Contest - "Stars Over Paseo Colorado" Photography Contest invites amateur photographers to photograph images of "Pasadena at Night." View the photographer´s amazing results highlighting the winning entries that feature some of Pasadena´s most notable landmarks.

"Out of This World Ice Cream" - Cold Stone Creamery at Paseo Colorado will announce the winning entries of the "Stars Over Paseo Colorado" at Close Encounters of the Paseo Kind event on Saturday evening, September 26 and will be serving samples to the public. The "Stars Over Paseo Colorado" "Out of This World Ice Cream" contest invites everyone to create their own Cold Stone Creamery Creation utilizing existing Cold Stone flavors and you can WIN a Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream Party for Six of your closest friends or aliens.
